History of Cartier

Started originally as a jewelry workshop in Paris France, Cartier has been a manufacturer of some of the most exquisite jewelry known to man for over 160 years. The fine precise design elements involved with their world class jewelry line were adapted to their modern timepieces creating iconic instant classics. By 1904, Albert Santos Dumont, a Brazilian aviator and friend of the Cartier family, complained about the impracticability of reading his pocket watch while flying, thus spawning the creation of Cartier's first wrist watch; the Santos. Other popular staple models like the Tank wristwatch, a design modeled after the Renault tanks of World War I are still in production today. Many people consider this to be one of the most influential watch designs of the 20th century. Cartier has catered to royalty and celebrities all over the world, maintaining a loyal and dedicated fan base since its inception. Their name is synonymous with affluent success, and their jewelry line/precious metal pieces are what drive the market today.
