When Carlo Crocco left the Blinda Group to start his own company in 1976, he left with a vision. By 1980, that vision spawned innovation as Hublot engineered the first ever natural "tempered" rubber strap. Three years of effort and precision were poured into the virtually indestructible strap design causing numerous other watch brands around the world to adapt similar technologies for their timepieces. “Hublot” in French actually means “porthole”, like that of a ship. The watch's nautical inspired design elements are thus inherently bound to its case design. These innovative timepieces quickly garnered the attention of the Kings of Spain, Greece, and Sweden, all of whom had to add a rubber strapped Hublot to their fine collection.
